Cannot install Google Drive on Microsoft Windows Server due to IE ESC security restriction

Posted by on Jan 6, 2015 in Internet Explorer | 0 comments

Due to IE being on lockdown on most servers (in my case 2012) it would not connect to the account. Open IE and go into Internet Options. On the Security tab, click Trusted sites. Add https://*.google.com and apply it. NOTE: When installing Google Drive, it can and WILL kill explorer.exe which killed off all my current data transfers without warning.

AutoCAD “This plotter configuration cannot be used”

Posted by on Jan 6, 2015 in AutoCAD | 0 comments

In AutoCAD you might get a message saying “This plotter configuration cannot be used for one of the reasons : The driver cannot be found, the device cannot be found, or the driver has a problem” Now before that error message it will list a printer (ex: RICOH Miafa 1080 : This plotter configuration cannot be used..) and in this case that printer (RICOH) was NOT installed nor on the network at the client. AutoCAD saves the ‘plotter’ information within its projects and not inside the software itself. To fix this you...

After performing Physical to Virtual conversion, Virtual Machine will not boot due to Access Denied error

Posted by on Jan 6, 2015 in Hyper-V | 0 comments

The VHDX file needs permissions for the VM GUID to access full control over the file. Essentially, copy down the VM ID. You can get this ID by hitting the “More” link on the error message that Hyper-V manager gives you while attempting to start. Then, on the Hyper-V machine, run the following command: icacls <Path of .vhd or .avhd file> /grant "NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\<Virtual Machine ID from step 1>":(F) As long as you copied down the VM GUID correctly, you should receive a success message after running the command. The...

After performing a System State restore, the server reboots, and you are able to login. When you click on Active Directory Users and Computers you receive an error message stating “You are not connected to a domain or it no longer exists.” When you browse to the server’s shares with \\SERVERNAME, the SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares are missing. If you run DCdiag.exe from the run prompt, it does not pass the FsmoCheck test. Stop the File Replication service on the domain controller. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe). Locate...

In this case, it was also on a workgroup. It will not accept the password because of the authenticated method that changed in W7. You have to go into the registry to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa and then ADD a DWORD value of LmCompatibilityLevel and set it to 1 (one) No reboots required, it worked immediately for me. Since it was on a workgroup the credentials were server\administrator and then the password, and I had to check the box to run with different...
